I bought this for use with the ipod touch and shuttle because the provided head set did not fit well and did to provide comfortable listening. This head is 180 degrees betteer.

With so much of the earphone inside of your ear, you'll hear major "cable-noise" when you turn your head slightly, or the cable rubs your collar, or during any form of movement. If you want to understand what "cable-noise" sounds like, put a stethoscope on and tap the diaphragm. It's exactly like that: thud, thud, thud.

It seems the cable isn't buffered too well from the earphone, which makes these unsuitable for any activity other than laying in bed completely still. Also, chewing and swallowing are out the question while wearing these, you'll hear that too. Singing, no way.

After 5 minutes, the deep thud from the cable is intolerable. The music sounds good otherwise. Overall, major disappointment from Apple. I would not recommend these to anyone.

To say the bass is weak is an understatement. The bass that comes through these headphones is practically non-existent! It's too bad, because I really, really wanted to love these headphones. Everything else about them is perfect. They look beautiful. They include a compact triangle carrying case. They fit easily and comfortably in the ear. The play/pause/volume button works well.

But the lack of bass is a huge disappointment, particularly when listening to drum & bass heavy rock. If all you listen to are talk show podcasts and female vocal performances, then you may be happy with these, but otherwise I would recommend going with the standard Apple Earphones with Remote & Mic. They only cost $29 and sound *much* better.

First of all, let me clarify that I am by no means a "bass freak". I mainly enjoy listening to jazz music, intermixed with some alternative rock on the side.

I bought the new Apple headphones this morning. The moment I tried them on, I realized that they had virtually no response in the low and mid frequencies.

Convinced that it was just a matter of finding the right fit for my ears, I tried all earbud cover sizes (small, medium, and large) at least three times each, with no noticeable improvement. I also tried positioning the earbuds in my ears in a multitude of ways. The sound was still awful.

Thinking that maybe the headphones were just defective, I went back to the Apple store and exchanged the first pair for another new pair. But they sounded exactly the same!

I finally returned the headphones and went back to my original ones (the default Apple headphones that, believe it or not, sound immensely better that the new $79 heapdhones!)
